Art of the Day: Van Gogh, Street in Auvers, May 1890. Oil on canvas, 73 x 92 cm. Ateneum Art Museum, Helsinki.
This was the first ever painting by Van Gogh to be acquired by a public art museum. Thirteen years after the artist's death, a delegation of museum trustees purchased the canvas from the Finnish widow of a French art collector. It's now one of the gems of the Ateneum's international collection.
